A Mwenezi man has been acquitted of murder by reason of insanity, following a tragic incident in 2022 that resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man.
According to the reports, the accused person and the now deceased were coming from the local shopping center when a heated argument ensued between the two and escalated into a violent altercation.
During the altercation, the accused person struck the now deceased on the head with a wooden stool, causing fatal injuries.
The now deceased called out to his wife before he succumbed to his wounds. His wife discovered the body lying in a pool of blood.
Villagers tracked the spoor of the accused person and apprehended him at his homestead, where they found the murder tool.
However, the court found the accused not guilty on mental health grounds and he was committed ta psychiatric hospital for care and treatment.
This tragic case highlights the devastating impact of violence and the complexities of addressing mental health within the justice system.
