BEITBRIDGE investors have expressed strong interests in spreading their wings to Maphisa, as a lasting tribute to Zimbabwe’s late Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo.
This follows the area’s recent rise to national prominence.after hosting the 46th Independence Day celebrations.
The renewed attention has positioned Maphisa as a strategic investment destination, with stakeholders seeking to transform the area into a socio-economic hub that reflects Nkomo’s enduring legacy and contribution to Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle.
Speaking to Ziyah Newsnetwork in Maphisa on Saturday, ALPHA International Land Developers director Jonathan Gapare said the company is keen to invest in the area, citing the need to preserve and honour Nkomo’s legacy through tangible development projects.
“Maphisa presents an opportunity to blend historical significance with modern infrastructure, in line with national development goals,” he said.
Gapare said his company, which operates under the mission “Building the Nation,” is committed to delivering accessible, durable and affordable housing, adding that such initiatives will play a key role in uplifting communities while maintaining the cultural and historical identity of the region.
The firm has previously contributed to infrastructure development in other parts of the country, including the construction of storm water drainage systems in Beitbridge, demonstrating its capacity to support large-scale projects that improve livelihoods and urban resilience.
Joshua Nkomo, affectionately known as “Father Zimbabwe,” was a towering figure in the country’s liberation struggle and a key architect of independence.
Born in Matabeleland South, Nkomo maintained deep roots in the region, making Maphisa a symbolic location for initiatives aimed at preserving his legacy.
As investment interest grows, expectations are high that planned developments will not only honour Nkomo’s historical significance but also unlock economic opportunities for local communities, positioning Maphisa as a model for heritage-driven development in Zimbabwe.
