Against chilly weather, battering winds and all odds, the love of two legal practitioners, Sandile Thlou and Pithey Magumula, prevailed as they exchanged vows in Beitbridge on Saturday.
Their union brought together Sotho and Venda cultures in a colourful celebration of love, family and unity.
The wedding was nearly a casualty of the weather after a rainy night plunged parts of Beitbridge into darkness.
Strong winds battered the town, damaging some of the wedding decorations and raising fears that the ceremony could be disrupted.
As the weather continued to deteriorate, concerns grew among family and friends, with some advising the couple to consider changing the venue.
But love prevailed over the weather, and the couple remained resolute that their special day would go ahead.
Temperatures in Beitbridge ranged between 16°C and 24°C on Saturday, with the chilly conditions adding to the challenges faced by the wedding party.
Yet the cold could not dampen the mood.
Sandile looked flawless in a beautifully styled white bow gown, complemented by elegant makeup, while Pithey cut a sharp figure in a white suit paired with black trousers.
The couple later changed into traditional Venda attire, adding a strong cultural touch to the celebrations and symbolising the coming together of their two backgrounds.
The energy of the bridal escorts was equally infectious, with the bridal party keeping the celebrations alive through dance, song and vibrant displays of joy despite the cold weather.
The newlyweds were also showered with generous wedding gifts from family and friends, including cash, beasts, home appliances and various other household items, as loved ones celebrated their union and wished them prosperity in their new chapter.
Despite the weather, Sandile and Pithey were eventually declared husband and wife.
The celebrations were spiced up by performances from local talent, including Beitbridge artist Bhadila, real name Lehlohonolo Ndlovu, who entertained the guests.
Guests were also treated to an energetic performance by Leskandi 2.0 Dance a dance group from Bulawayo with some students from Zezani High School, which added colour and excitement to the occasion.
In his speech, Magumula thanked family and friends for making their wedding day special despite the difficult circumstances.
“I want to thank you all for making my day perfect.
“Because of your sacrifice for taking your time to come and celebrate with us.
“I want to thank Magumulas and Tlous.
“Yesterday we received messages from a lot of people saying we should pray, we should change venue due to the weather.
“We prayed commanding the wind to give way and today was perfect,” he said.
The bridegroom is a practising lawyer in Beitbridge and the bride is a Clerk of Court in the Civil Division.
Their union, most probably brewed in the corridors of the law, turned the Ronnies Sports Arena famous for football, into a love lane where families rejoiced, danced and cherished the new family.
The couple, both tall and beaming, took the vows they have over the years witnessed hundreds of couples at their workplace take as they waited for their turn.
And Pithey and Sandile’s turn arrived under silver clouds and chill easily overuled by sweet love and devotion.
