Harare – The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the temporary closure of roads in Mabvuku to allow for the construction of the Mabvuku Interchange, with diversions set to begin on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Traffic will be redirected to alternative routes for the duration of the project, though authorities have not yet provided a timeline for completion. The Ministry said the detours are necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and construction workers as work progresses on the long-awaited upgrade.
In its statement, the Ministry assured the public that clear signage would be placed along all detour routes to help guide drivers. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance, follow instructions, and exercise caution on the temporary roads.
“The diversion has been necessitated by the commencement of the Mabvuku Interchange project,” the Ministry said.
“This measure ensures the safety of both motorists and construction personnel while allowing progress on the upgrades.”
The interchange is expected to ease congestion and improve traffic flow along one of Harare’s busiest corridors.
However, the announcement has also sparked debate. Some citizens questioned why other critical roads across the country remain in poor condition, arguing that resources should be spread more evenly to address widespread traffic challenges.
Despite the concerns, officials maintain that the Mabvuku Interchange is a vital project and have called for patience and cooperation from the public.
