In a development that is set to excite proponents of women advancement and recognition, President Mnangagwa has appointed former Harare West legislator and Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) as the Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC).Ms. Majome’s appointed is with immediate effect.
The former opposition legislator holds a Bachelor of Laws, Post Graduate Diploma in Women’s Law, a Master of Laws in Constitutional Law, Development Law, Human Rights Law and Administrative Law.
Ms. Majome has wide experience in Public Administration as former Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, and as Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs among other key policy level positions.
She takes over the top post at the ZHRC, a key institution and one of the Chapter 12 independent commissions. With the West having a lot to say about Zimbabwe’s human rights record, Majome will have a her plate full to deal with any arising human rights misdeeds from a group of countries who are also key partners for the commission.
The ZHRC is established to promote, protect and enforce human rights and fundamental or basic freedoms. The commission extends its wings to dealing with the aspect of protecting the people from abuse of power and maladministration by state institutions and officials.
Meanwhile, the President has also appointed former prosecutor Michael to head the ZACC. Mr Reza comes in to replace a post left by Loice Matanda- Moyo who is now the Prospect General. He takes over an organisation that has lost confidence especially among ordinary Zimbabweans, mostly for lack of tangible convictions after numerous arrests.
Mr. Michael Reza holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of South Africa and a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the Midlands State University.
He has also undergone training in the handling of money laundering and asset forfeiture in South Africa, Botswana and Malawi under the sponsorship of the United Nations Organ on Drugs and Crime. Mr. Reza possesses vast experience in criminal investigations and prosecution and has handled corruption cases at the highest level.
