Zimbabwean sprinter Tapiwanashe Makarawu has made his own personal history by winning both the 2024 Sportsman of the Year and overall Sportsperson of the Year accolades at the Annual National Sports Awards (ANSA) in Harare last night.

The 24 year old USA based sprinter had an outstanding season, finishing 6th in the 100 metre final at the Paris 2024 Olympics, silver medal at the African Senior championship in Cameroon and achieving a string of sub 21 seconds run in the 2001 event across competitive meets on the US circuits.

Makarawu ‘s former University, Bindura University of Science and education expressed their appreciation and joy following the 24 year old ‘s historic accolades win.

“US-Based former BUSE National Sports Academy athlete, Tapiwa Makarawu was crowned the 2024 Sportsperson of the Year and Sportsman of the Year at the Annual National Sports Awards (ANSA) for his outstanding performances in 2024. Tapiwa won a silver medal in the African Athletics Championships and finished 6th in the 2024 Paris Olympics 200m finals. More is expected of Tapiwa as he prepares for the 2025 World Championships. Congratulations Cham,” Bindura University stated.

Makarawu is set to compete in the upcoming twentieth edition of the 2025 world athletics championship scheduled to take place from 13 until 21 September.
