South Africa-Zimbabwe’s women soccer team, the Mighty Warriors are out of the COSAFA women championship after Mozambique secured 1-1 against Lesotho, a result that allowed the Mozambicans to claim top spot in group B.
After losing their first match to Mozambique, the Mighty Warriors redeemed themselves by grabbing a 3-0 victory over Lesotho however their win was not enough as they have now been dumped out of the tournament.
Mighty Warriors ‘path to the knockout stages relied on Lesotho to defeat Mozambique by at least two goals in order to secure their progress however Lesotho failed to defeat Mozambique which officially means Mighty Warriors are out of the Hollywood bet COSAFA.
Zimbabwe last became the champions of this tournament in 2011 becoming the first nation to break South Africa‘s hold on the COSAFA, in 2017 Zimbabwe were the host of the tournament and made it all the way to the final, only to come unstuck against Banyana Banyana who regained the trophy. Fast forward to 2024 Mighty, Warriors were unfortunate and unlucky as they failed to reach the knockout stages.
Elsewhere, in other groups, Zambia continued to shine, displaying a mesmerising and ruthless performance, as they effortlessly snapped Comoros 7-0.Shepolopolo secured a seminal sport in style.
