Zimbabwe‘s senior women soccer team, the Mighty Warriors clinched a significant 3-0 victory over Lesotho their Hollywood COSAFA 2024 in South Africa reigniting their hopes in the tournament.
After losing their first match to Mozambique, the Mighty Warriors redeemed themselves by displaying an amazing performance scoring three goals in a crucial time.
Mighty Warriors forward Ethel Chinyere displayed a top class performance as she found the back of the net twice, Christabel Katona added third goal in the 69th minute. These goals could help the Mighty Warriors in their goal difference. Currently, the team is level with Mozambique on three points however Mozambique has a game in hand against Lesotho.
Zimbabwe’s qualification path to the knockout stages is still compromised because they have to rely on Lesotho to defeat Mozambique by at least two goals in order to secure their progress.Most significantly ,only the group leaders will qualify for the knockout stages ,meaning Lesotho has to win by over 5 goals margin. If Mozambique wins the match , that means the Mighty Warriors are out. Historically, Lesotho and Mozambique lastly played each other in 2018, resulting in a 2-1 victory in favor of Mozambique. Fast forward 2024 they are preparing to battle again with aims to secure a knockout qualification spot.
Meanwhile, in group B, Botswana is set to battle Madagascar .Botswana defeated Mauritius 5-0 on their match day 2 meanwhile Madagascar lost 1-0 over Malawi.
The match between Botswana and Madagascar will be a defining moment to the group B teams. Both has an upper hand to win the match and secure knockout stage spot.
