Beitbridge District — The Minister of State for Matabeleland South and Provincial Affairs, Honorable Albert Nguluvhe, has officially commissioned a new borehole at Beitbridge District Hospital. The facility, funded and facilitated by the Crossboarders for Economic Development (CED), aims to address the ongoing water crisis that has been impacting the hospital’s operations, particularly in the maternity ward where water is a need.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Minister Nguluvhe commended the efforts of CED, emphasizing the importance of community-driven initiatives.

“What the Crossboarders for ED have done today is a shining example of giving back to our community. Their contribution will go a long way in ensuring that our hospital can serve the people better,” he stated.

He further echoed the national call for collective participation in development, drawing on the popular mantra, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, a reminder that the country is built by its own people.

“Development is a shared responsibility. Everyone must play their part, whether big or small, to uplift our community,” Nguluvhe remarked.

The minister also appealed for sustained efforts to develop the hospital to meet the growing needs of the population it serves.

“Our hospital is located in a border town, where many transit travellers and locals seek assistance. It is vital that we develop this facility to match the capacity of the people it serves,” he said, emphasizing the importance of upgrading healthcare infrastructure.

On behalf of the community, District Medical Officer Dr. Linos Samhere expressed his gratitude to CED for their generous contribution.

“This borehole will benefit not just the patients at the hospital but the entire community around Beitbridge. It’s a step forward in ensuring reliable water supply, which is critical for effective healthcare delivery,” he stated.

Dr. Samhere also encouraged others to emulate this gesture of community service, hoping it will ignite further acts of giving back.

Water challenges have been a constant challenge for the district hospital hindering it’s abilities to effectively be the hub of patient care it is supposed to be for the district. The commissioned borehole is only but a single step towards ameliorating the water and other challenges facing the hospital.
