The President of Zimbabwe Emmerson D Mnangagwa has reassigned two key ministers, a move aimed at optimizing the functioning of his cabinet and addressing key policy areas. The reassignment was announced in a statement released on October 15, 2024, by Dr. M. Rushwaya, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet.

According to the statement, Hon. A. Murwira, previously serving as the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development, has been appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

In this new role, Murwira is expected to leverage his extensive knowledge and experience in education and technology to enhance Zimbabwe’s international relations and trade initiatives.

Meanwhile, Hon. F. M. Shava, who formerly held the Foreign Affairs portfolio, has now been appointed to lead the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development.

Shava’s transition into this ministry signals a renewed focus on strengthening educational frameworks and promoting innovation in Zimbabwe, as he brings a wealth of diplomatic and administrative experience to the role.

These ministerial reassignments were executed under Section 104(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which grants the President the authority to allocate responsibilities within the cabinet.

This strategic move reflects the president’s commitment to addressing the pressing challenges facing Zimbabwe, particularly in the areas of foreign relations and educational development.
