PRESIDENT and First Secretary of ZANU PF Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has appointed Senator Kudakwashe Tagwirei to the ruling party’s Politburo as Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion, days after naming him Minister of Economic Development and Investment Promotion.

Tagwirei’s appointment to the party’s top decision-making body was announced on October 15, 2026, in a statement issued by ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity and Party Spokesperson, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa.

The appointment follows Mnangagwa’s decision on October 8, 2026, to appoint Tagwirei to the newly established ministerial portfolio responsible for economic development and investment promotion, placing him in key positions within both Government and the ruling party.

In the latest party restructuring, Tagwirei assumes the newly redesignated position of Secretary for Economic Affairs and Investment Promotion, a role focused on economic affairs and investment promotion within ZANU PF’s structures.

The changes also saw Obert Moses Mpofu reassigned from the Politburo to the party’s Council of Elders following his appointment to the body.

Mpofu previously served as Secretary for Science and Technology.

Meanwhile, Mayor Wadyajena has been appointed to the Central Committee, marking his return to the party’s key leadership structures.

According to Mutsvangwa, the appointments and reassignments were made in accordance with the ZANU PF Constitution, specifically Articles 7, 8 and 9, which deal with Central Committee membership, the Council of Elders and Politburo appointments, respectively.

The changes take immediate effect.

His new responsibilities place him within both the Government’s economic policy framework and the ruling party’s leadership structures, as attention turns to the implementation of investment and development initiatives.
