BEITBRIDGE is facing renewed concerns over armed robberies after a money changer was robbed at gunpoint by three unidentified men at the Lucky 7 front point in Dulibadzimu at around 1800hrs on October 14, 2026.

Adrian Matunga, popularly known as Joe, reportedly lost a wrap bag containing United States dollars and South African rands during the incident.

According to information gathered by Ziyah News Network, this is reportedly the fourth time Matunga has been targeted in similar robberies at the same location.

The Lucky 7 chill spot accommodates approximately seven airtime vendors and money changers. However, Matunga is reportedly the only individual targeted in the repeated incidents.

Speaking to Ziyah News Network, a Dulibadzimu resident who witnessed the robbery said the incident occurred earlier than the usual time money changers finish their shifts.

“Normally, these money changers last up to 1900hrs on shift, but this was the earliest robbery they have faced from the countless times,” the witness said.

The witness said three unidentified men were seated at Lutumba Renk, approximately 80 metres from the money changers’ spot, and appeared to be observing the vendors.

“I tried sending signals to one of the money changers to take caution, as the three men acted suspiciously.”

“I could tell they had no intentions of looking for lifts going to Lutumba since the Renk was emptying as vehicles were leaving,” the witness said.

The witness also said, the suspects suddenly ran towards the money changers, targeting Matunga and holding him at gunpoint while others fled.

“Sadly, they forced his bag off him and fled towards the Roman Catholic Church point near the Beitbridge Rural District Council building, where it is suspected they had a car waiting for them,” the witness said.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reportedly arrived at the scene approximately 10 minutes after the robbery.

Matunga was reported to be unharmed and in good condition, with no gunshots fired or extreme violence reported during the incident.

The repeated incidents have raised concerns about the safety of money changers and other residents operating around the Dulibadzimu area.

Officer Commanding Beitbridge Police District, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube, said they had not yet received a report of the robbery.

Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, take precautions when carrying cash and report suspicious activities to the police.
