MINISTER of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Edgar Moyo has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to supporting Zimbabweans returning home, saying the Beitbridge Reception and Support Centre is a symbol of dignity, compassion and national solidarity.
Speaking during an official visit to the reception centre on Thursday July 23, 2026, Moyo commended Government ministries, departments and agencies, development partners, civil society organisations, community leaders and volunteers for their coordinated response in assisting returning migrants.
He said the centre has played a critical role in providing temporary shelter, food, healthcare, psychosocial support and other humanitarian services to Zimbabweans returning from neighbouring countries.
“Migration remains a complex challenge shaped by economic realities, regional dynamics and global pressures. Despite these challenges, the resilience of our people continues to shine through. Our work is not only about providing immediate relief but also about laying the foundation for sustainable reintegration,” said Moyo.
Moyo said his visit was aimed at assessing operations at the centre, engaging stakeholders and identifying areas that require strengthening to ensure every returnee is treated with dignity and respect.
He also said listening directly to returnees, saying their experiences will help us have an informed Government policy.
“They are not statistics. They are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters whose courage deserves recognition and support. Their voices will help us design policies that respond effectively to the realities of migration,” he said.
Moyo said the Ministry would continue strengthening reintegration programmes through skills development, employment creation and social protection while enhancing collaboration with other Government ministries and development partners.
He praised the coordination between Government institutions and non-state actors involved in the response, describing it as a practical demonstration of the whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach championed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“The briefing we have received reflects high levels of coordination by both State and non-State actors. This collaboration is a practical manifestation of His Excellency President Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s visionary leadership,” said Moyo.
The Beitbridge Reception and Support Centre has become a key facility in Zimbabwe’s response to the recent influx of returning nationals, offering temporary accommodation, meals, medical services, counselling and documentation support before returnees are reunited with their families and communities.
Addressing returnees, Moyo assured them that Government would continue walking with them throughout their reintegration process.
“Welcome home. Your country stands ready to walk with you on your journey of renewal and reintegration,” he said.
