A devastating storm has left an elderly Musane woman homeless, prompting a local community organisation and residents to launch an urgent appeal to help rebuild her home.
According to the VESO organisation, the woman, identified as Gogo Sabugu from Siyoga Phaphaphani under Musane, lost her home and all belongings after violent winds tore through the area a few weeks ago.
VESO said the grandmother, who has been a pillar of strength in her family for years, is now living under open walls after her home was completely destroyed.
“Granny’s home, where she’s lived for so many years, was destroyed. She lost not only her roof and walls but also cherished memories and everyday essentials,” said VESO .
. “At her age, this has been incredibly hard on her she’s currently staying under open walls, but we want to get her back into a safe, comfortable space as soon as possible.”
The storm, which struck parts of Musane, caused severe wind damage, flattening several homes and leaving residents counting losses.
For Gogo Sabugu, the impact has been especially devastating, as she now relies on neighbours and volunteers for daily support.
Despite the hardship, the organisation said the elderly woman’s spirit remains unbroken, and she continues to be grateful for those rallying around her.
The VESO organisation has since launched a fundraising appeal to assist her with immediate needs, including materials for temporary home repairs and the replacement of basic household items.
“Our goal is to raise money for at least 10 bags of cement and for labour, but every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference,” the organisation said.
“We are also appealing for roofing sheets, window and door frames, and other materials needed to rebuild her home.”
Those wishing to assist have been encouraged to contact Mme Khwareli (Mia Cassandra) at +263 78 442 3457 or make donations to a Capitec Bank account held under the name GM Selamoela.
VESO said the appeal is not only about rebuilding a house but also about restoring dignity and hope for a grandmother who has long supported her family and community.
