THE Beitbridge District Agricultural Show has been postponed after organisers failed to secure a venue and put the necessary arrangements in place ahead of the event.
The agricultural expo was expected to kick off on Wednesday, according to a flyer that has been circulating on social media in recent days.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, Agritex Livestock Specialist Cecilia Chakanyuka confirmed that the event would no longer take place as scheduled.
“There were no proper arrangements for the show and no venue had been secured, making it impossible for the event to go ahead,” she said.
Chakanyuka also said the district’s Acting District Agricultural Extension Officer (DAEO), Mr O. Ndlovu, is currently out of town and is expected to return next week.
“Once he returns, stakeholders will sit down and conduct proper planning. New dates for the agricultural show will then be announced,” she said.
It was not clear what had been communicated to exhibitors.
The Beitbridge District Agricultural Show is an important platform for farmers, livestock breeders, agribusinesses and agricultural stakeholders to exhibit their products, share knowledge and showcase farming innovations.
The event also promotes agricultural development and provides opportunities for networking among players in the sector.
Agritex, the Department of Agricultural, Technical and Extension Services, is responsible for providing agricultural advisory services, training farmers on modern farming methods, improving productivity and supporting food security initiatives across the country.
Officials have urged farmers and exhibitors to await further communication regarding the rescheduled dates, which are expected to be announced after consultations and planning meetings next week.
