The office of the President and Cabinet has warned the public against a fraudulent and extortionist organisation created in the name of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, ‘MicroFinance Auxillia Mnangagwa’.

The organisation whose page is on Facebook, purports to be giving out interest free loans to the public. In a statement, Deputy Chief Secretary, Presidential Communications, George Charamba distanced the First Lady from the mischievous individuals behind the creation of purported micro finance.

‘The Office of the President and Cabinet wishes to categorically disassociate the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa and her Office, from some extortionist “organization” posted on Social Media as “MicroFinance Auxillia Mnangagwa.”

“This entrapping post purports to “grant interest-free loans for projects” which it claims are associated with the First Lady of Zimbabwe, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa. The public is advised that this is a false and extortionate communication inserted by crooks who use the social media for their dirty ends, and that it thus should be ignored and shunned.

Mr Charamba ordered the Zimbabwe Republic Police to investigate the attempt to extort people using the First Lady’s name , bringing it into disrepute.

“By this Press Statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police, ZRP, is being informed, and also directed to investigate this attempted cybercrime so culprits behind it are brought to book, ” concluded the statement.

The abuse of names of politicians to achieve desired selfish ends by individuals has been with us in our Zimbabwean landscape. The nature of our politics makes it easier for crooks to use prominent persons names and or their proximity to power as means to get what their want at all cost. Seemingly, it’s  easy for crooks to user names of prominent politicians sometimes to commit acts of abuse , extortion and in most cases they get away with it.
