BEITBRIDGE police have recovered the Jaguar car stolen from Peter’s Motel abandoned after an accident in Zvishavane.
No suspect has been arrested.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday Superintendent Philisani Ndebele of Beitbridge Police said there have been some positive information from follow-ups and also announced that police are going to clamp down on unnecessary movements .
“The car was recovered after an accident and has been taken to Zvishavane Police for safe-keeping while arrangements are being made to bring it back,” he said.
“We are following up on positive information. We also have positive information on the spate of robberies that occured recently.
Those who follow the media know we have already arrested six suspects helping us to clear cases from April to September. We have a total of eight cases they are clearing,” said Ndebele.
He said the girl kidnapped during a robbery at the New Medium Density had since been reunited with her family.
“Yes we have been scoring some successes but we can only do it if we get information. People should come forward because one day it mght be you who is a victim,” he said.
Ndebele said police are going to clamp down on unnecessary movements at night as a preventive measure and people should only do so only when necessary.
“We are also against night vending. People should comply with he Government directive against vending at night as it makes it easy for suspects to move,” he said.
He reiterated that people should be aware of the dangers of keeping large sums of money or openly discussing their plans which robbers capitalised on.
Ndebele asked taxi drivers to share information on suspicious clients who hire them while in general people should be their neighbour’s keepers.
“Robbers always take phones first so it becomes hard for victims to report while they go away. If someone hears some commotion next door they must alert the police for quick reactions, let us be our brothets’ keepers,” he said.
