THE Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for any information leading to the arrest of a running serial rapist causing mayhem in Beitbridge East.
The suspect who has on several occassions run fast away from villagsrs tracking him is accused of at least five rape cases where women living alone were attacked.
In an interview Thursday national police spokesman Senior Commissioner Paul Nyathi said his office is concerned about the case raised by several leaders.
“Traditional leaders have raised their concerns. Chiefs and kraalheads from the area. The Matabeleland South Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe has also raised his concerns about the issue,” said Nyathi.
“We are appealing to any information that may lead to the arrest of this suspect,” he said.
Nyathi said the ZRP provincial commanders confirmed there was an outcry in Beitbridge over the elusive suspect.
Villagers are however concerned and feel police on the ground were not doing enough considering the sex predator has been on the prowl for almost three months.
People from HaGoda, Madhamuni, Nuli, Chamnanga, Dithe and HaMakhavhane in Beitbridge East havs formed search parties thT have been taking turns to chase the suspect.
Each time he outpaced them and disappeared.
“Had the police joined us we would have been able to catch this menace,” said a villager from Tshambelela where he was seen on Tuesday.
The elusive suspect has reminded villagers of Bonnie, a rapist who ran riot in Beitbridge Central but evaded police until he slipped into South Africa.
Hs was later arrested by farm guards in that country and later deported tp Zimbabwe where he was nabbed on arrival.
