The President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has hosted the senior men’s rugby team the  ‘Sables’ at State House where he awarded them with cash of US$6,500 per player for winning the Rugby Africa Cup in Kampala, Uganda back in July.

This follows hard on the heels of the President rewarding the triumphant Warriors upon their qualification to AFCON 2025 in Morocco.

The Zimbabwean Sables finished unbeaten in 24 matches and scooped their first Africa Cup title in 12 years, overcoming heavyweight and defending champions Namibia for the first time in 23 years.

The Sables coached by Piet Benade triumphed over Algeria with a decisive 29-3 victory and win puts them in good stead for next year’s Africa Cup competition which will double as qualification for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia.
