The Southern African Development Community Secretariat has unveiled a capacity development workshop on Gender Based Violence data system.
This is part of the region’s steps towards addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the region. In a collaborative effort with UN Women, the SADC Secretariat has thoroughly reviewed GBV reports, research, and data usage in the SADC region. The examination was an aim to strengthen GBV data management.
“SADC launches a Capacity Development Workshop on Gender-Based Violence Data Systems. The SADC Secretariat in efforts to improve gender-based violence (GBV) data management, and in collaboration with the GIZ (PfP) and UN Women, kicked off week-long deliberations on the 17th February to examine GBV reporting, research and use of data in the SADC region,” the SADC Secretariat stated.
The capacity-development workshop brought together representatives from the various sectors in the SADC member states which includes gender, police, health, statistics and civil society to enhance GBV data reporting and use to inform GBV prevention and response strategies.
