South African Legendary Singer and Actress, Winnie Khumalo, has passed away after a short illness.She was 51.
The demise of the singer, song writer and actress was confirmed by her family. Her songs often included themes of love, inspiration and empowerment.
Winnie Khumalo was born in Mofolo North, Soweto and she sang different genres including Afro pop,R&B, Soul Music and later she later expanded her genre to Gospel songs with the song titled “Izono Zami.” Throughout her career, Khumalo has collaborated with various South African artists, including Brenda Fassie, DJ Cleo, Bongo Maffin, and Pure Magic.
In 2009 Winnie was Nominated for the record of the year at the South African Awards (Samas) for releasing a hit song called I Just Wanna Live My Life which topped the charts and received multiple nominations including at the Channel O music Awards and also in 2021 Winnie released a song called Loluthando, which gained widespread popularity in South Africa and beyond.
Apart from her music career, Khumalo was also an actress who has appeared in several TV soap operas, including Muvhango. She has also featured in Chicco’s film Madluphuthu.Zimbabweans will probably remember her for the chart topping hit Razaro, sang in shona.
Khumalo leaves behind two children a daughter, Rethabile Khumalo, and a son, Thando Khumalo.
Her fans in South Africans and around the world have been expressing an outpouring of emotions as they mourn the loss of their iconic and legendary singer and Actress Winnie Khumalo.
