Three Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe from a bus conductor.
The officers, Constable Tichaona Fitzgerald Chitereka (35), Sergeant Simbarashe Nyerere (38), and Constable Pardon Chindudzi (34), claimed to be searching for smuggled goods on a broken-down bus from Bless It Up Company.
The officers allegedly told the bus conductor that the bus would be taken to Darwendale Camp unless they received $500. After the conductor reported the incident to Chief Inspector Maxwell Tomwe, a trap was set, and the officers were caught accepting the bribe.
With trap money provided by the police, the victim delivered the bribe to Chitereka, who accepted it and the police officers were subsequently arrested.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urges the public to remain vigilant and report instances of corruption, especially bribery involving law enforcement. Such reports are crucial in maintaining the integrity of the justice system.
