Defending champions Tongwe High School secured a 1-0 victory over rivals Zezani High School to win the Beitbridge District NASH U20 championship and successfully defend their title.
Tongwe High School, famously known by its motto “Tshisima Tsha vhuṱali”(Pool of knowledge) , will now represent Beitbridge District at the Matabeleland South Provincial NASH U20 competitions.
Tongwe midfielder Brian Ndlovu, who also plays professional football for Vhembe Stars Academy, broke the deadlock with a spectacular goal to secure a 1-0 victory that sent Tongwe through to the provincial competitions.
The 1-0 victory extended Tongwe’s over 10 year unbeaten and dominant run in the Beitbridge District NASH U20 championship.
On their road to the final, Tongwe recorded two 1-1 draws in the group stages against Malungudzi and St. Joseph.
In the quarterfinals, they defeated Vhembe High School 2-1 to book a semi-final date with fellow Northern cluster side Chabili, which they won 2-0, before beating Zezani High School to win the championship.
Tongwe High School expressed gratitude to the U20 boys’ team after securing back-to-back qualification to the Matabeleland South provincial competitions.
“Congratulations to the U20 boys, staff, and coaches. Your grit, teamwork, and discipline carried Tongwe High School to the top of the district. From the final whistle to the trophy lift,” the school said in a statement.
