Musician Trevor Dongo has been arrested and presented at Harare Central Police Station following a fire that severely damaged his rented apartment in the Central Business District. The incident occurred on Wednesday, 26 March 2025, and Dongo has been charged with malicious damage to property.
Accompanied by his lawyer, Dumisani Mthombeni, Dongo visited the police station where he signed a “warned and cautioned” statement before being released.
He maintains that he was not present when the fire broke out, and it is currently unclear when he will appear in court.
The fire garnered media attention over the weekend, with reports suggesting that a jealous ex-lover may have started the blaze after discovering Dongo with another woman.
However, Dongo has refuted these claims in a now-deleted Facebook post, denouncing them as false.
Dongo confirmed that he sustained burns while trying to save his belongings during the incident and lost several valuable items, including furniture, clothing, studio equipment, and important documents, as well as the apartment itself.
