Two inmates Feliciano Simango (also known as Fidelis Jorum Mauyangwe) and Never Matoma have escaped from Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo.
The convicts escaped on Wednesday . during a supervised work assignment outside the prison facility, where the inmates gained unauthorized access to a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) vehicle.
According to the ZPCS press statement “the escapees used the vehicle to flee but were involved in an accident approximately 2.5 kilometers from the site, rendering the vehicle inoperable. They then fled on foot.”
Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi said the incident is now under investigation, and security measures have been reinforced to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
She further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in locating the escapees.
