It was billed as a David-and-Goliath clash, and this time Goliath fell short as Vhembe Stars Academy edged Blanket Mine 1-0 in a tightly contested Match Day 19 fixture of the Matabeleland South Division 2 Pool A.

Fresh from a 2-0 victory over Boys FC, the debutants continued their fairytale run, stunning the more experienced Blanket Mine side.

Despite a string of brilliant saves from the Blanket Mine goalkeeper, Vhembe’s relentless pressure eventually paid off when Brian Ndlovu broke the deadlock, sealing all three points for the Beitbridge outfit.

The Vhembe faithful were in full voice at Dulibadzimu, celebrating yet another milestone victory. Many hailed Ndlovu’s clinical finish and goalkeeper Selector Mutenda’s shot-stopping heroics.
“Another day, another clean sheet, another step closer to the promotion goal. Our boys are displaying real fighting and winning spirit,” one jubilant supporter wrote, capturing the optimism in the camp.

Meanwhile, Superstrikers also recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Gwanda Stars yesterday to stay top of the table.

With just a handful of matches left, the title race remains wide open. Superstrikers, Vhembe Stars Academy, Jessie, and Mawabeni are all pushing hard in the top four, with every game proving crucial in the battle for promotion.
