VHEMBE STARS FC suffered a 2–1 defeat to Sabi Gold Mine FC in an away fixture at Sabi Mine Stadium on Saturday, April 11, despite taking an early lead and showing strong spells of dominance.

The visitors started brightly, with Davies Nyamukondiwa(7) finding the back of the net in the opening stages of the first half to put Vhembe ahead.

The early goal set the tone for a competitive encounter, as both sides exchanged attacking moves in a closely contested opening period.

Sabi Gold Mine FC, however responded before the break, grabbing an equaliser to level matters at 1–1 heading into half-time.

After the return from halftime, the home side capitalised on their momentum and scored the decisive goal in the second half, overturning Vhembe’s early advantage and securing all three points.

Speaking to Ziyah News Network, head coach Philimon Mutyakureva expressed disappointment with the result, pointing to costly mistakes despite his team’s overall performance.

“Davies Nyamukondiwa(7) scored our only goal. we dominated the opponent but made two blunders that cost us the game,” he said.

Mutyakureva also highlighted individual performances, singling out Nyamukondiwa and Dambaza Dylan (47)for their efforts during the match.

The result left Vhembe Stars FC reflecting on missed opportunities, having shown promise but ultimately falling short due to defensive lapses.
