VILLAGERS at Makhavhane just outside Beitbridge on Saturday teamed up to hunt down a suspected rapists said to be targetting lone women.

A distress call from one of the villagers called upon other villagers to come out in numbers and search for the elusive suspect who has allegedly entered more than five homes to attack women.

“Lets hurry up people. Lets look for this person who has already violated women in five homes, lets us gather and look for him. We are near Hlamulo’s place near his first victim. Hehas already been in five homes,” said the unidentified villager.

Another woman identified as Dephine who recorded herself on video appealed to parents to escort girl children to school.

“I have a message for villagers at Madhamuni, Nuli, Chicago, Makhavhani, Lutumba and Dite where the is a person on the loose housebreaking and raping women,” said the woman in video viral on social media.

“Mothers you should not leave girls alone at home. He has already broken into three homes and he attempted another woman who fled and called other villagers but he escaped,” said Dephine.

Although he has not killed anyone, the suspected serial rapist has reminded Beitbridge villagers of a similar assailant who was later arrested in South Africa evading the law in Zimbabwe.

He had caused sleepless nights for women in Matshiloni, Tsafhutshe, Mugaladivha and Penemene.

Yesterday the officer commanding Beitbridge Police District Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube said police intelligence is on the ground and an arrest is imminent.

“This man is said to be living in the mountains but the arm of the law will reach him,” he said.
