The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched a $1.5 billion Health Emergency Appeal (HEA) to address urgent health crises affecting 305 million people worldwide in 2025.

Announced by the organisation on their official website, this initiative aims to tackle 42 ongoing health emergencies, including 17 classified as Grade 3 crises, which require the highest level of response.

The need for this substantial funding comes against a backdrop of escalating crises stemming from conflict, climate change, disease outbreaks, and widespread displacement.

“This appeal is about enabling WHO to save lives, protect the right to health, and provide hope where there is none,”WHO stated.

With support from donors and partners, WHO aims to fulfill its crucial role in health emergencies while upholding international humanitarian law and ensuring that no one is left behind, even in the most challenging circumstances.
