Joyce Garikayi a Harare woman has accused her husband, Jack Mukandwe, of both physical and emotional abuse, claiming he uses chilli during their intimate moments, which has put her health at serious risk.
The allegations emerged during a court hearing at the Harare Civil Court, presided over by Magistrate Meenal Naratom.
According to Joyce, the use of chilli has caused severe discomfort, leading to persistent itching in her private parts.
She described how Jack claims this practice spices up their sex life, but it has only led to distress and health problems for her.
Joyce further alleged that when she denies him intimacy, he insults her, attributing her refusal to supposed goblins from her family.
In a surprising turn, Jack did not deny the allegations. He admitted to experimenting with this practice after hearing about it from friends who claimed to have used the same method successfully in their relationships.
Joyce also testified that she had moved back to her parents’ home in an effort to escape Jack’s violent behavior.
Despite her efforts to distance herself, she reported that he has continued to stalk and harass her, leaving her fearful for her safety.
Joyce also detailed how Jack has a pattern of removing asbestos from their roof whenever he feels provoked.
The court, granted Joyce a protection order, recognizing the severity of the threat posed by Jack’s behavior.
The court acknowledged the emotional and physical trauma Joyce has endured and took necessary steps to ensure her safety.
In response to the proceedings, Jack apologized for his violent actions, attributing his behavior to his short temper.
He suggested that they could work on their marriage together. However, Joyce remains cautious, focusing on her well-being and safety above all else.
