SERVICING of Beitbridge’s new commercial business district, located between Tshitaudze and the area south of the Government flats opposite St Joseph’s Primary School, has officially commenced, Mayor Peter Pirato Mafuta has confirmed.
Mayor Mafuta also revealed that construction of a new Fresh Supplies Market in the Medium Density suburb is underway.
The market is expected to eventually accommodate traders currently operating in the existing facility, although he did not provide a specific relocation timeline.
“Council is working tirelessly to make sure we meet the Minimum Service Delivery Standards Indicators for Local Authorities, in line with the vision of the President’s Vision 2030,” said Mafuta.
He said on Monday, he toured several ongoing council projects alongside municipal officials, including members of the engineering department.
Among the sites visited were developments in Wamulala stream, as well as Mabidi clinic and a school project, where work is already in progress.
The Beitbridge community has responded positively to the developments, particularly on social media platforms, where residents have expressed optimism about improved infrastructure.
Many are hopeful that the ongoing projects will also lead to upgrades of local roads in surrounding areas.
“If the town expands along the highway, local businesses will benefit more from travellers, and as a town we will boost visibility. Passers by need to get a glimpse of the town,” one resident wrote.

Meanwhile, the servicing of stands in the new commercial district is being carried out by Tiger Eye Land Developers, who arrived from Mutare last week.
The company has already made initial progress, including drilling a borehole at the site.
The developments mark a significant step toward urban expansion and improved service delivery in Beitbridge, aligning with broader national development goals.
