Harare – Zimbabwe Cricket has received a timely lift as CABS, one of the country’s leading financial institutions, announced a US$50,000 sponsorship package for the nation’s five provincial cricket teams an initiative aimed at strengthening local talent and fueling long-term national development.
The direct funding will benefit Eagles, Rhinos, Tuskers, Mountaineers, and Southern Rocks, the teams competing in the Logan Cup, Pro50 Championship, and Domestic T20 Competition. But more importantly, the sponsorship is being hailed as a game-changer in how sport can help unlock Zimbabwe’s human potential.
“This kind of corporate support plays an important role in strengthening the game’s foundation and enabling long-term growth,” said Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni.
What sets this partnership apart is its bottom-up funding model money goes straight to the teams, allowing them to address their own priorities. From improving coaching structures to enhancing player welfare and developing youth talent, the initiative puts decision-making power in the hands of those closest to the grassroots.
CABS Managing Director Mehluli Mpofu said the move is about more than cricketit’s about investing in national progress through sport.
“Across the country, there are talented, passionate youths who see sport as a pathway to opportunity, purpose and pride,” Mpofu said.
“By investing in domestic cricket, we are helping build those pathways.”
He added that sport plays a crucial role in shaping communities, inspiring ambition, and offering young people alternatives in a challenging socio-economic environment.
The direct-to-team funding approach also introduces stronger financial accountability and transparency in domestic cricket pillars that Zimbabwe Cricket says are central to building a modern, sustainable sports system.
CABS, which has quietly supported cricket since 2004, continues to deepen its legacy in sport. Its long-standing involvement in cricket development has helped uncover future stars and strengthen the country’s player pipeline.
With renewed corporate support, Zimbabwe’s domestic teams now have the opportunity not only to compete but to grow, inspire, and lead.
As the 2025 season unfolds, this partnership signals a new era in which sport, business, and community come together to shape a stronger, more hopeful future for Zimbabwe.
