THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Matabeleland South Province has said it is now processing beneficiaries under the recently approved 2026 Presidential Amnesty.
The general amnesty was approved by Cabinet and announced in a Cabinet brief on February 10 by the then Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Jenfan Muswere.
Confirming developments ZPCS Matabeleland South Province Public Relations Officer Terence Tikiti said the clemency process is underway.
“Following the just announced 2026 Presidential Amnesty by the President and Cabinet through the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, the ZPCS is therefore currently working on the granted Clemency Order No. 1 of 2026 for all beneficiaries according to the order’s categories,” he said.
Tikiti said the release of eligible inmates is expected once final approval processes are complete.
“The release of inmates is expected once approved anytime soon. We will keep you updated on the date of release,” he added.
He further invited members of the media in Matabeleland South to cover the programme once the release date is confirmed.
The amnesty is expected to benefit inmates who fall within the specified categories outlined in Clemency Order No. 1 of 2026.
