The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested two officers following the circulation of a viral social media video that allegedly shows them accepting bribes in Harare’s Central Business District.
In a press statement released today, the ZRP confirmed that the incident occurred at Parkade Rank, situated at the intersection of Nelson Mandela Street and Rezende Street. The video reportedly features a female police officer seated on a plastic chair while allegedly receiving bribes from members of the public.
The officers involved in the incident have been identified as Constable Mupandira and Constable Chirengendure. Both officers are currently in custody and face both disciplinary and criminal charges.
“The Commissioner-General of Police does not condone corruption by any police officer and will ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favour,” the statement emphasized.
The ZRP reiterated its commitment to eradicating corruption within its ranks and encouraged the public to continue reporting such misconduct.
The statement was signed by Commissioner P. Nyathi, Chief Staff Officer for Press and Public Relations at the Police General Headquarters.
