Some of the Graduates

At least 31 graduates have already secured employment, while 71 are running income-generating activities.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, Acting Director of Vocational Training and Skills Development Ngonidzashe Mudzamiri said the initiative reflects government’s commitment to inclusive development.

“Beitbridge, as a strategic gateway to our nation and a vital hub for regional trade, holds a unique position in Zimbabwe’s development landscape. It is fitting that, in this vibrant district, we are witnessing the tangible benefits of human capital development, where the potential of our youth is being harnessed as the backbone of Zimbabwe’s industrial and vocational revival. This graduation event reaffirms our commitment to leaving no one and no place behind,” he said.

He urged the private sector to continue mentoring, supporting and employing the young people, saying they represent the skilled workforce that will modernize industries and strengthen the economy.

“To the private sector, I urge you to continue mentoring, supporting, and employing these young people. They represent the skilled workforce that will modernize our industries and strengthen our economy,” he said.

“And to the graduates, you are not merely recipients of assistance; you are active agents of economic transformation. Under Vision 2030, you are the artisans, technicians, and entrepreneurs who will drive Zimbabwe’s industrialization and ensure that Beitbridge remains a center of production and innovation,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Director of Finance in the Minister’s Office Mr E. Mandeya commended Young Africa Zimbabwe for the initiative.

“This programme is a win for every household represented by these graduates. To the graduates, you are the answer and the valuable asset our economy demands,” he said.

Chief of Mission at IOM, Diana Carter, said the SRHR Knows No Borders project integrates vocational skills with sexual and reproductive health education to empower young people holistically.

“The SRHR Knows No Borders project recognizes that economic empowerment and access to sexual and reproductive health information go hand in hand. When young people are equipped with skills and knowledge, they are better positioned to make informed life choices and build sustainable livelihoods,” she said.

District Project Coordinator for Young Africa Zimbabwe, Perseverance Ndou, said the project focuses on reducing economic vulnerability among young people through entrepreneurship, financial literacy and vocational skills linked to employment opportunities.

“The targeted vulnerable young people include young mothers, school dropouts and those who have just completed their O-Levels. Here in Beitbridge, economic opportunities are limited, with many households relying on informal trade and small businesses. These graduates now have the tools to contribute meaningfully to their families, communities and the local economy,” she said.

Graduates received practical vocational skills, life skills, entrepreneurship training and sexual reproductive health knowledge aimed at improving both their livelihoods and overall well-being.
