Beitbridge athletes shined at the 2024 edition of the Musina Marathon held in South Africa over the weekend.

The talented group of athletes who did put Beitbridge on the map and also flew the country’s flag high managed to scoop prizes in different age categories of the marathon.

The team, headlined by mostly female athletes did perform beyond expectations with Layota Sandra Ndou coming third in the 21km race for the 20 to 35 years category. In the 42km race of the same age category, Langelihle also claimed a podium finish taking second place.

For the senior citizens race, Mrs Sibonile Sitaudze also took second position in the female category covering ages 50-59 whilst third place went to another Beitbridge and Zimbabwean athlete, Stellar Dhokotera.In the male version of the senior citizens 10km race, Bigboy Sitaudze did not get podium finish by bravely managed to complete the race.

Speaking to Ziyah News Network, one of the athletes the veteran, Bigboy Sitaudze said he was impressed with the performance of especially the women who took part in the race. He also said the Mayor of Musina applauded the team from Beitbridge and encouraged them to return for next year’s event. Unfortunately, some of the athletes did not get prize money for their podium finishes as they had not properly attire reflecting athletes’ categories and their numbers.
