A 35-year-old man from Dilubadzimu, Beitbridge, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for the attempted murder of his ex-wife, following a conviction by the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) reported that on August 27, the man forcibly entered his ex-wife’s residence, locked her inside her room, and threatened her life.

In a fit of rage, he displayed an okapi knife he had concealed and attempted to stab her. During a struggle for the weapon, the ex-wife was overpowered, resulting in multiple deep cuts to her hands.

Amid her screams for help, the accused managed to stab her once in the abdomen, causing severe injuries.

Another tenant heard the complainant’s scream and came to the room which the complainant unlocked and the accused fled the scene.

The tenant promptly took her to Beitbridge District Hospital, from where she was referred to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

A report was subsequently filed, leading to the arrest of the assailant.
