Matemba Marambasvina, a 38-year-old resident of Gwangwava Village in Siakobvu, has been sentenced to 105 hours of community service along with a suspended prison term for poaching-related offenses. He was convicted and sentenced by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), on September 4, 2024, park rangers on patrol at the Maronga River within Matusadonha National Park encountered Marambasvina in a restricted area, carrying a satchel.
When questioned about his presence in the prohibited zone, he was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation.
Upon searching his belongings, authorities discovered eight wire snares, an axe, and three knives all intended for trapping wildlife prompting his arrest.
He was initially sentenced to six months in prison, with three months suspended for five years.
