LOCAL youths are being called to the finishing line instead of the street corner as the annual Beitbridge RIOT Marathon slotted for April 19, 2026, is in motion.
It will be hosted at Croc Gardens at Beitbridge’s OJs shopping Complex.
Organized by Running Is Our Therapy (RIOT), the event seeks to champion youth talent and provide a healthy alternative to the rising tide of drug abuse in the border town.
By prioritizing physical discipline and community engagement, organizers hope to steer young residents toward productive paths.
The marathon features four distinct categories to ensure inclusivity,42.2km Full Marathon, 21.1km Half Marathon, 10km Road Race and 5km Fun Run.
“This marathon is for a drug awareness campaign and showcasing the talents of our youth,” said Innocent Mahaso, one of the event coordinators. The 05:30 start time reflects the discipline required for the sport, though participants are reminded that headphones are strictly prohibited to ensure safety and focus.
Registration is currently open at $15.00 for RIOT members and $20.00 for non members.
