BEITBRIDGE Municipality plans to meet all ratepayers in an initiative to establish reasons behind non compliance with rates and other service charges.
Town clerk Loud Ramakgapola said the initiative to start this week hopes to have an interaction with over 600 individuals from different sections including residential, commercial, industrial, open spaces, to name a few and establish reasons of defaulting.
“We want to find a way forward and find common ground as to why there is little compliance, we will go ward by ward and visit every category of ratepayers in this initiative,” he said.
Beitbridge is throttled with huge ratepayer debt and is struggling to provide minimum service.
Some residents however blame ratepayers behaviour on municipality inefficiency with almost all new suburbs without water or sewer services.
People in ese areas have spent thousands on boreholes and sceptic tanks which could have been channelled to Municipality coffers.
