Kadoma Magistrates’ Court has convicted Evelyn Mkwananzi (38) for stealing nearly US$30,000 from Delta Beverages, where she was employed as a cashier.
National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe states that the incident occurred when Mkwananzi allegedly stole the cash intended for banking from the previous day’s beverage sales. In a bid to conceal her theft, she attempted to burn part of the money. CCTV footage captured her fleeing the scene after setting the fire.
A quick response by security saved US$12,500, but US$470 and ZWL$900 were partially burnt.
She was found Guilty of Theft and Sentenced to 38 months imprisonment, 10 months suspended for 5 years, 12 months suspended if she repays US$29,860, 16 months suspended on condition she performs 560 hours of community service at Rutendo Primary School, Kwekwe.
This case serves as a reminder that integrity is paramount, as attempts to conceal wrongdoing only deepen the repercussions, with the justice system ensuring accountability.
