In a remarkable display of talent and speed, Zimbabwean sprinters Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu achieved a historic 1-2 finish in the men’s 200m final at the 2025 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

 Charamba, representing Auburn University, clinched the gold medal with an outstanding time of 20.13 seconds, breaking the Zimbabwean indoor record and marking the seventh fastest indoor 200m time ever recorded.

Charamba dominated throughout the competition, showcasing his skill in the preliminary rounds before delivering a record-breaking performance in the final.

His victory adds to his growing list of accolades, which includes an impressive showing as an Olympic finalist in Paris last summer.

Makarawu, competing for the University of Kentucky, also impressed with a personal best time of 20.26 seconds, earning him the silver medal.

The remarkable achievements of both athletes have established them as formidable contenders for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships, where they will face the nation’s top collegiate talent.

With their performances at the SEC Championships, Charamba and Makarawu not only made history for Zimbabwe but also set the stage for a bright future in track and field.
