Matabeleland South — In a move to foster grassroots economic development, Crossborders for ED’s Matabeleland South chapter has begun distributing funds from the Presidential Fund to small traders across the region.
At least 45 traders received loans of $200 or more, payable within two months, with no interest. The initiative aims to nurture entrepreneurial spirit among local traders by providing vital seed funding to help them expand their businesses and create jobs in their communities.

The funding event on Saturday 12 July, was backed by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Devolution, Honourable Nguluvhe, who urged the beneficiaries to leverage this opportunity for sustainable growth.
“Supporting our traders is essential for building resilient local economies. I call on all recipients to use these funds wisely and responsibly,” he emphasized.
Mr. Blessing Mureyani, Chairperson of Crossborders for ED in Beitbridge, explained the broader vision behind the program.
“This is about more than just individual businesses, it’s about empowering our youth and local traders to become drivers of economic change. We want them to see this as a stepping stone toward long-term success,” he said.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the program, Mureyani noted that anyone interested in benefiting can apply and register with the Crossborders for ED Association.
“We’re reaching out to traders from all corners of Matabeleland South, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he added.
The initiative also aligns with national development goals.
“We are grateful to President Mnangagwa for supporting youth entrepreneurship. His mantra, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo,’ reminds us that Zimbabwe’s progress depends on the efforts of its people,” Mureyani stated.

Beneficiaries expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the support.
“This funding gives us hope and a chance to grow our businesses,” said one trader. Another added, “It’s an inspiration to see organizations investing in local traders. We are motivated to work harder and contribute to our community’s prosperity.”
As the program moves forward, Crossborders for ED encourages all eligible traders to apply, utilize the funds responsibly, and see this as an investment in their personal growth and the economic development of Zimbabwe.
