Beitbridge – The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has reiterated its dedication to transparency, integrity, and accountability in revenue collection, customs administration, and service delivery.

Speaking at the launch of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZAAC) Anti-Corruption Campaign, ZIMRA Regional Manager Josiphine Uta emphasized the agency’s unwavering stance against smuggling and corruption.

“This meeting signifies our collective commitment to fostering transparency and integrity in our operations, recognizing that collaboration is key to overcoming the hurdles we encounter daily.”said Uta during her  address.

Uta outlined ZIMRA’s legal mandate as derived from the Revenue Authority Act [Chapter 23:11] and related legislation, highlighting the agency’s core responsibilities: collecting revenue, facilitating trade and travel, advising government, and protecting civil society. She stressed that these functions play a critical role in safeguarding national interests through fair and transparent operations.

Beyond revenue collection, Uta emphasized ZIMRA’s role in taxpayer education and domestic resource mobilization.

“We understand that an informed citizenry is essential for fostering compliance and enhancing the overall tax culture in our country,” she noted.

Through outreach programs, workshops, and information campaigns, ZIMRA aims to empower citizens with knowledge about their tax rights and responsibilities.

“The revenue collected directly funds vital public services, infrastructure projects, and social programs. Every tax contribution is a step toward building a prosperous future for Zimbabwe,” she stated.

Uta further highlighted ZIMRA’s integrity framework, built on automation, stringent staff vetting, and ongoing awareness campaigns, reinforcing the authority’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption. She underscored the importance of whistleblower protection as a cornerstone of this framework, allowing individuals to report unethical practices without fear of reprisal.

Acknowledging the importance of inter-agency collaboration, Uta praised the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission as a crucial ally.

“ZACC’s mandate includes investigating corruption, combating abuse of power, promoting integrity, educating the public, and recommending prosecution. Their role is essential in shaping a culture of accountability within our nation,” she said.

The launch of the ZAAC Anti-Corruption Campaign marks a pivotal moment in the country’s ongoing battle against corruption, with ZIMRA and ZACC working hand-in-hand to build a more accountable and prosperous Zimbabwe.
