Four men all below the age of 30 have been convicted and slapped with a nine year jail term each for a brutal robbery they committed in the early hours of June 30th 2025.
The four are Emmanuel Chishingwi (28) of Gaza O, Godknows Mubango (25) of Gaza D, Claus Mupikata (26) of Gaza O, and Gift Manasa (22) of Gaza E, all from Chipinge will spend the next six years reminiscing the events of 30th June in prison after 2 years were suspended on condition of good behaviour and another year on condition of restitution amounting to $143 each. . They were sentenced by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court on armed robbery charges.
Circumstances around the case are that on the day in question and at around 0300hours, the offenders targeted the home of the victim, a 43 year old self-employed man in Christina Dairy, Chipinge.
Using a hand brake gear lever, they forced open the main door of the house. They threatened the victim with machetes and an axe and forced him into his bedroom whilst demanding valuables. The offenders stole property worth US$650, including: Cash (US$5), a 25-inch television, car keys (Toyota Probox), two mobile phones, clothes, batteries, an amplifier, electric scissors, and the victim’s Zimbabwean passport.
Fearing detection by security guards, the offenders hid the TV in nearby bushes, intending to retrieve it later under the cover of darkness. The victim promptly reported the robbery to ZRP Chipinge. Police investigations led to the arrest of all four offenders.
