In the aftermath of a fatal road traffic accident at the 262 km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Thursday morning, February 13th, Discovery Ambulance Services has taken desired action to assist the victims by ferrying them to Harare and Masvingo for further treatment.
A total of five individuals who were admitted to Beitbridge District Hospital, where they received initial medical care, were transferred to Harare and Masvingo respectively for further treatment.
Elliot Chivigi, a practitioner in charge at Discovery Ambulance Services, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing timely and effective medical assistance.
“We are here to transport them so that they will be able to get proper care and further treatment from specialists at provincial and national levels where there is adequate equipment,” he stated.
In a show of support, Chivigi also assured that Discovery Ambulance Services will cater for their medical bills and everything that will be needed until they return to their homes.
Beitbridge Mayor Peter Pirato expressed his gratitude to Discovery Ambulance Services for their timely intervention. He called on responsible authorities to assist with suitable hospital machinery and ambulances, highlighting the need for local medical facilities.
“We need to ensure that people will not need to travel for medical facilities,” he said.
Families of the victims have also expressed their gratitude for the support during this difficult time.
“We are glad that they will receive treatment close to their families, as some of them are far from home,” one family member stated.
The call for improved local medical facilities underscores the importance of having adequate resources to handle emergencies effectively. As the community comes together to support those affected, it serves as a reminder of the critical role timely medical assistance plays in times of crisis and the need for responsible authorities to work towards.
