Stakeholders in animal welfare, agriculture and local leadership will host a Donkey Nutrition Day in Beitbridge East at Dite, Ward 2, on January 22.
The event aims to promote sustainable and drought-resistant feeding strategies to improve donkey health and welfare.
According to the programme seen by Ziyah News Network, the event will be held at the Maitazwitoma Nutrition Garden under the theme “Sustainable, drought-resistant feeding strategies for donkey health and welfare”
Proceedings will begin at 0900 hours.
The programme features a series of speeches from key stakeholders, including representatives from Veterinary and Animal Welfare Zimbabwe (VAWZ), the District Agricultural Extension Officer (DAEO), AGRITEX, and the Matopos Research Institute (MRI), highlighting collaborative efforts to improve donkey nutrition and welfare in drought-prone areas
Practical farmer-led sessions form a major part of the day, with testimonials from farmers involved in the Mbuyedzo Youth Garden and Maitazwitoma Garden.
Demonstrations will cover pelletisation, haymaking and baling, block making, cactus planting, and proper feeding of donkeys, supported by AGRITEX and MRI experts.
Participants will also tour forage fields at midday, led by AGRITEX and VAWZ.
Organisers say the Donkey Nutrition Day is expected to strengthen farmers’ capacity to adopt resilient feeding practices, helping safeguard donkey welfare while supporting livelihoods in the face of climate challenges.
