President Emmerson Mnangagwa rewarded the Zimbabwe Warriors with a cash bonus of $6,500 each for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.

The Warriors visited State house on Tuesday and met the President who congratulated the team for their triumph that will see them going to Morocco next year.

The event was attended by several Warriors players including Khama Billiat, Richard Hachiro, Brian Banda, Tymon Machope, Donovan Bernard, Emmanuel Jalai, Martin Mapisa, Walter Musona, Washington Arubi, Godknows Murwira, Obriel Chirinda and Teenage Hadebe.

The Warriors last month finished second in Group J of the qualifiers, enough to take them to the finals alongside group winners Cameroon.

The President’s gesture come a week after the Minister of Finance allocated the Warriors US$1 million to use for preparations for the 2025 AFCON finals preparations.

Zimbabwe will be making its sixth appearance at the AFCON tournament, having marked its debut in 2004 in Tunisia.

Other teams from the SADC region which will be competing at the 2025 AFCON are South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, DRC and Angola.
