The causeway on Tshivuda Road

Tshivuda Road, a crucial route connecting two sections of Dulivhadzimu suburb from Makhado Road near the Kingdom Light Ministries Church (Mashakada) and Sibugwana Road near the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) as become impassable when flooded.

The low lying causeway, now synonymous with overflowing sewererage near a place commonly referred to as HaLonely, has become a hazard especially after Thursday morning downpours, prompting residents to appeal

It became impassable on Thursday morning after a night of torrential rain.

The bridge, a vital crossing point, was submerged under a raging torrent of water, making it a hazardous challenge for drivers.

Vehicles had difficult times attempting to navigate the flooded road struggled the çauseway where a man was swept away to death in he 1990s.

Of late and then pestrians are forced to find alternative routes, fearing the dangers Wamlala River poses at that section where swirling water reign during storms.

Speaking to Ziyah Media Network, Innocent Muleya, a pirate taxi driver said the causeway has become cause for concern.

” We are affected by the flooding at Tshivhunda road which happens to be an easier way to reach HaLonely for our taxi services,” he said.

Drivers and pedestrians are expected to exercise caution when reaching the Tshivhunda road, he said.

The heavy rains, which began the previous night at 9 pm, had brought the area to a standstill.

Beitbridge residents woke up to a disrupted day, with many roads blocked by floodwaters blamed on the town’s drainage system.

Municipality of Beitbridge public relations officer Raniel Ndou who is tasked with handling the press said he did not have a comment.

“I have no comment,” he said.

Beitbridge Town Engineer Douglas Siphuma whose office handles sewer, water reticulation, roads and general engineering referred all questions to the town clerk Loud Ramakgapola who was not available for comment.

Beitbridge residents are increasingly getting impatient with their local authority’s derelection of duty.

Floods that have been recurrent over the years at the lower sections of Dulivhadzimu have exposed the municipality prompting a recent visit by Matabeleland South Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe who told council officers to shape up or ship out.
