The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned individuals allegedly exploiting the recent tragic deaths of children in Kuwadzana by mobilising donations under false pretence and inciting illegal gatherings.
In a statement Sunday, Police Commissioner Paul Nyathi , identified Josephine Mutongi as the individual behind Ecocash and InnBucks accounts used to solicit money under the guise of assisting bereaved families and organising protests over claims that the victims’ body parts were missing.
“For the record, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has no evidence that any of the victims had missing body ,” Nyathi said.
He further said the families of the victims have publicly disowned Josephine Mutongi actively using social media platforms to create confusion among the public.
To provide clarity on the ongoing investigation, ZRP said that a full post-mortem is scheduled for October 6, 2025 in Harare.
“The results will be shared in consultation with the affected families,” Nyathi said.
The police also cautioned against participation in illegal demonstrations linked to this tragedy.
“The law will definitely take its course without fear or favor,” Nyathi said.
ZRP said the public should respect the privacy of grieving families and allow law enforcement to complete its investigations.
